Dr. Anjum is a ‘Doctor of Medicine’ {M.D. Paediatrics} and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D. Islamic Studies) from University of Kashmir and a multifaceted litterateur having earned recognition from beyond borders for his creative, analytical and critical literary works. Having previously worked as Registrar & Lecturer Paedia in GMC Srinagar (2004-2009), Consultant Paediatrician, with J&K Health & Medical Education Department (2009-2017) and Asstt. Professor in Islamic Studies (2017-2023), Dr. Anjum is presently Chair Professor in Tribal Studies (Since 5/2023) and Coordinator, Centre for Research in Gojri, Pahari & Kashmiri, at BGSBU Rajouri (J&K).
In Medical Sciences, Dr. Anjum completed his graduation (M.B;B.S. 1985) from University of Jammu, M.D. Paedia (1997) and worked as Resident doctor, Research Scholar, Registrar, Lecturer and Consultant, spending 11 years in Teaching Hospitals (GMC Jammu/Srinagar). He has exceptional honor of being a key member in establishing Post Graduate Departments of Paediatrics at SMGS Hospital-GMC Jammu (1993) & at GB Pant Hospital Srinagar (2005). Further Dr. Anjum has put in 30 years of uninterrupted gazetted service in PB-4 and retired under V.R.S. on August 31, 2017. He was conferred with “State Humanity Award 2018” for his selfless service to Humanity over past 30 years.
Having brilliant academic record and varied interests particularly in medicine, sports, literature and Comparative Study of Religions; Dr Anjum in addition to MBBS (University of Jammu) and MD (University of Kashmir), went on to complete his M.A. Islamic Studies (2010) and Ph.D in Islamic Studies (University of Kashmir), CIC from IGNOU (2002), M.A. NET Urdu (2009), M.A. NET English (2012) from MANUU Hyderabad and CAL from IGNOU (2022). Further he has qualified UGC NET/SET seven times in four different subjects: English, Urdu, Islamic Studies & Religious Studies (CSR).
In literature Dr. Rafique Anjum has authored more than 40 books including, first ever History of Gojri Literature in 10 volumes, Gojri-English-Hindi dictionary, Gojri Grammar, Gojri Kahwat Kosh & Banjara, a treatise on life and works of Indo-Pak Gojri writers; besides the Online Gojri Webonary and Gojri Translation of Quran available in Islam-360 App. Dr. Anjum is presently the most read and referred to writer of Gojri having to his credit many prestigious honors & awards including ‘Man of Letters Award’, ‘State Humanity Award’, ‘Best Teacher Award’, State level ‘Award for Excellence in Literature’ and Tribal Award 2021-22, besides serving as a Member of General Council of J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages (2005-2010). The Academy has published a special issue of ‘Sheeraza’ on “Life and Works of Dr. Rafique Anjum” in recognition of his contributions to Gojri language and literature. The University of Jammu awarded M.Phil. to a scholar for his research on Urdu Poetry of Dr. Rafique Anjum. In 2015 Dr. Anjum was invited as expert to frame syllabus and establish ‘Department of Tribal Studies’ (Gojri) at Central University of Himachal Pradesh. Padam Shree Kh.M.Y. Taing, (Ex. DG Culture), observes: “Pichli nisaf sadi men jo Gojri adab tehrir hua he us men se Dr. Rafique Anjum ka hissa nikaal dijiye to aesa khalaa samne aaye ga jo oonche suron men bolne lage ga.”
